Going on a camping trip soon? Let’s talk about packing. A stay in the wilderness typically requires less in clothes and shoes than other vacations, but there are a few essentials you would not want to forget. On most trips, if you forget to pack something, you can probably grab it at a nearby store. In the wilderness, though, it’s a different story. I prepared a checklist to help you out when packing, so you don't forget something you might need.

 1. CLOTHES AND SHOES

When it comes to clothes, choose lightweight fabrics that are moisture-wicking so you can reuse the same top and bottoms a few times. Other pieces you’ll want to bring are: hat, packable waterproof and breathable jacket, wool socks, hiking boots or trail runners, sandals, sunglasses, long pants and long-sleeved shirt (in case the nights are cold) and swimsuit if there's a river or lake where you can swim.

2. EATS AND DRINKS

Chances are you’ll have to prepare your own meals, so save some real estate in your bag for a portable kitchen. These items include: camping stove with fuel, cookwear, utensils, water bottle, towel and soap, small cutting board, and of course food! Pack some pre-packaged snacks like bars and trail mix as well as freeze-dried camping meals you can cook on the trail if backpacking.

3. PERSONAL ITEMS

Be selective with your personal care items and bring only the basic necessities: toilet paper, tothbrush, toothpaste, hairbrush, soap, sunscreen, lip balm with SPF, first aid kit, then prescription medications and painkillers. What if you gat an urinary infection? You need to have a proper medication for that as well. It's even better to stop it before it happens. Your doctor would normally prescribe you antibiotics, but they are not always a good solution, especially when you're not at home and can't go to the doctors'. You can prevent utis naturally. So, you can try with alternatives to antibiotics.

4. CAMP NECESSITIES
Here’s what you’ll need to sleep as safely and comfortably as possible: a tent, mallets, sunshade, sleeping bags, folding chairs and table, and don't forget a pocket knife in case you need to cut something. Also don't forget navigational tools, portable GPS, maps, compass, flashlights, and chargers.

5. ENTERTAINMENT

One of the best things about camping is spending uninterrupted quality time with friends and family, without the common high-tech distractions. Maximize the fun with these things: camera, binoculars, board games, playing cards, fishing gear, kayaking gear, bikes etc.
This is a comprehensive list, and you may not need it all — it just depends on what type of trip you’re going on. Heading out into the wilderness is an opportunity to awaken something new and push your everyday boundaries. Have a great time! And don't forget to pack something!
